Spring Blog 2017
Hi Everyone! We’re back to let you all know about the fun and exciting things we have been doing and working on these last few months! Mother’s Day Gifts kept all rooms busy as the children were making their moms very “special and personalize” gifts. We hope that all our amazing moms liked them.We as a centre also had to say “Goodbye” and “Good Luck” to Krystle who has gone to pursue her post-secondary education. She will be greatly missed and we wish her all the very best in her future endeavours J Thanks for being a part of our Inkster Family for 3 great years!!
Now that the warmer weather is upon us, both children and staff are looking forward to spending lots of time outside participating in various activities enjoying the beautiful outdoors! Also, in the next few weeks, all rooms will be working on making gifts for Father’s Day.
All rooms are looking forward to a fun filled summer! With that in mind, our summer planning has begun! Stay tune for more information to follow.
Just a friendly reminder, as of July 1, 2017- there will be no more heat up lunches for the summer months until September. All lunches must be disposable so no lunch bags and containers.
PRESCHOOL ROOM
Children have been keeping busy in our construction area by building hot wheels tracks with ramps, turns, and “special effects.” These tracks have been a HUGE success in all rooms as there are so many creative imaginations and possibilities that have been demonstrated by the children J This area has also been used for “Zombie Tag” where movement games and songs can be seen and heard. The housekeeping area was transformed into a Space Centre. Who knows, maybe one day one of them might go and explore Outer Space.
Our Lending Library is now up and running (in the Preschool Room and Kindergarten Room). Both parents and children have been enjoying this special feature! There are some very well loved and favourite stories we here at the centre have read to the children and thus have also developed learning games associated with them. The children’s love of “one-on-one” reading has grown and they are excited to be able to bring this opportunity home with them to share with others. If you would like more information about our learning games associated with our lending library, please talk to one of our staff members.
Now that the weather has warmed up, the children have been enjoying play outdoors more. They are fascinated with Bubbles! Anything to do with bubbles and watching them float through the sky! Along with the warmer weather comes the search for bugs. Catching them, watching them crawl, or fly through the air. Bugs are very INTERESTING!!
KINDERGARTEN
Once again, our kindergarten children were non stop with their creative juices! Various GIANT murals have been seen throughout the room. Different castles and houses were built by using the larger colored cardboard boxes and these added a little something more to their existing murals. Dress up clothes were used to pretend to be different animals and characters. Many cooking activities and special treats were made in our very own “kitchen” in the housekeeping area.
Art- many forms of art were still quite popular! The children did chalkboard art, sand table art, Popsicle art, and they even made their own art activity books where they let their imaginations soar. Playdough/plastercine figures and other creations were quite interesting to see and we found out more about them and their special talents. Beads were a great interest for many of the kids as well as many different board games. The new favourite board game was Connect 4 with a twist. Computer games and songs were still a success and used daily by many of the children.
We also tried to see if both the children and staff had green thumbs as part of our science experiment. Some children chose to plant flowers while others planted beets. Guess what, they actually sprouted in our cups and hopefully will make it to our gardens at home J
SCHOOL AGE
The children were very independent and creative when it came to daily activities and kept the activities coming. If you looked around, both upstairs in the room and in the gym, the children were staying busy and having fun!Board games especially 2 new games in particular that were introduced by 1 of our staff members- “Spoons” and “Ghost Blitz,” are still being played and enjoyed by both staff and children. “Coconut” and “Speed” card games remain an all time favourite. Tournaments are still being played currently. “Minute-it-to-win-it” games made an appearance once again where they challenged and mind boggled the children but also made them super fun to do J

Others enjoyed the Hot Wheels Tracks and turned our room into a giant racetrack where cars sped along. Various art activities can been seen throughout the room where the “SKY IS THE LIMIT.” Science Experiments were conducted and a huge hit :0 The children loved seeing how things changed or what happened when liquids were mixed together. We made a Volcano and watched it erupt. We made paper boats and then sailed them in water. We also did experiments with eggs.

Many originals and some quite interesting stories have been created and will be remembered for a long time to come.

The new game in the gym that seemed to be a hit was called “Andrew’s Favourite Game” that involved dodge balls and hitting cones as targets but a few twists were added in along the way.

Each student also participated in decorating their own cupcakes as part of a competition. Both children and staff came back for more helpings as they tasted so good! YUMMY J

All children participated in a personal hygiene unit where we had our public health nurse from our area come out to the centre and talk to the children about how to look after their bodies from head to toe. It was quite interesting to see the many different reactions of the children when they had the black light shone over their hands and could see that they didn’t wash their hands properly.
We had our very first “Egg Pocalypse.” Children were divided into teams where they created, using various materials and recyclable objects, to build a device capable of protecting an egg from deconstruction when thrown off the roof of the school. This was a HUGE success that there were a few teams whose egg didn’t break.
