The celebration of diversity and multiculturalism was the focus of the children’s summer.  The children enjoyed hands-on fun with science activities ; our expedition worldwide was a huge hit.   The children spent much of their time outdoors. They enjoyed tending to our garden and seeing the vegetables and flowers grow.  Their nurturing and love for animals was highlighted when we had both Prancing Ponies Petting Farm and the Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre visit our centre.  They were extremely gentle and loving with all the animals, especially with the baby chicks, calf, and baby goats.   We also spent hours looking for grasshoppers in the field and chasing dragonflies.  We observed butterfly habits indoors, and the children witnessed the monarchs’ life cycles.  When we released the butterflies, they were happy to see them spread their wings and fly into their new environment. The many entertainers and special visitors who came to our centre throughout the summer kept the children busy and gave them a glimpse of special celebrations and traditions in other countries. With the return to school in the fall and the mild winter weather, children spent as much time outdoors as possible. Things settled down for a bit now that routines and schedules were established. The children were constantly looking up and thinking of different ways to create masterpieces by using simple everyday objects, such as recyclables and various toys in the room, as seen by the many displays throughout our room. The school aged children have quite the imagination and we never know what things they will come up with next especially with their love for Art and Legos.

Preschool The Preschool children enjoyed a fantastic summer. We had a wide variety of entertainers visit our center. Some of the entertainers included Chris Scholl, a percussionist, Mr. Ken, a magician, as well as Fit Kids to name a few. We had a wide variety of special theme days from Messy Day  to Farm Day, where real farm animals came to visit. We explored space with Star Dome. The children stayed cool with Water Day and raced cars on Mario Day in the gym. We learned about different countries and cultures during Folklarama week. The children loved looking for insects in our garden which was a huge hit! The children absolutely loved planting vegetables, watering them, and taking excellent care of them. We observed them on a daily basis. We explored nature all summer long. All in all it was an incredible time! They enjoyed tending to our garden and seeing the vegetables grow. This care was also displayed in their love for animals which was highlighted throughout the summer. They had a blast looking for grasshoppers in the field, observing their butterfly habitat indoors, and creating habitats of their own for insects they were able to find. The release of their monarch butterflies was a bittersweet moment as the children checked on the habitat daily and witnessed the life cycle of the monarchs. The children were happy to see the five beauties spread their wings and fly into their new environment after hearing about the species becoming endangered this year. Their nurturing side carried…

The wasps are here so summer must be almost done! We had a very busy summer here at Inkster Community Child Care which made the days fly past. We tied in Folklorama’s 50th Anniversary with our theme for the summer. We had many multicultural acts again this year, which have proven a big hit with the children for the past few years. Each year we try to book new performers, along with a couple of perennial favourites. August 16 was a bittersweet day for us at Inkster Community Child Care. While the staff was eager to begin their summer holidays, they were also saddened to mark that day as Julie’s last. Unfortunately for all here who know her, Julie has left us finish her education and to pursue the next chapter in her life – she’ll appreciate that analogy as she is a writer. Her positive, upbeat personality will be sorely missed but she has promised that she will return to visit. Preschool and Kindergarten While always buzzing with activity, our preschool/kindergarten programs really crank it up in the summer. Stations, such as an art table, water table, block area, reading area and more were set up outside every morning to engage the children as they enjoyed the warm summer sun. By bringing our playrooms outside each day, ICCCI staff were able to incorporate experiential learning as they played – the children could read about insects and then run and catch them to have a close-up look. We had a selection of new equipment the children had a great time trying out; the bubble machine was a particular hit! Spring is here and so are hockey playoffs – It was very cute hearing our preschoolers chant: “Go Jets Go!” Most didn’t know who or what the Jets are but they sure got in the spirit of things. We’ve seen a glimmer of spring weather here and there, more there than here. It sure makes dressing each day a guessing game. Preschool As always, our preschool room has been busy, busy, busy. Danica, Leslie and Jody are constantly entertained and delighted by the way our little people’s minds work. They take an active interest in observing what the children are interested in and using emergent curriculum, create webs that represent these interests. Based on these webs, the staff plans activities, games and crafts to engage the children. Building and housekeeping have been very popular lately; housekeeping has been especially busy with our new remodel! We’ve transformed our housekeeping area to look like a small apartment furnished with natural tones and materials. It’s been a great hit. To further build on the children’s interest in building, new blocks were purchased, all made of different natural materials. The preschool staff daily employ the Abecedarian Approach, which is language-based learning. The children enjoy their individual reading time they have with staff each day. Learning based games are based individually on each child’s developmental needs. The preschool children have continued their visits to the Luther Home where they enjoy spending time with “the grandmas and grandpas”. The senior residents look forward each month to seeing their little friends and wish we could come much more often. The children greet the residents excitedly and bring out toys to show off and share. They take books to the grandmas and grandpas to read to them or bring puzzles to them to work on together. Hi everyone! Welcome back to all our returning families and a BIG WELCOME to all our new families who have recently started at Inkster Community Child Care Inc  🙂 We had a crazy jam-packed and wonderful past few months!  Summer just flew by!!! All rooms were extremely busy with all the fun-filled activities, fieldtrips, and all the special guests who came to our centre. There have been some changes that have taken place here at the centre with regard to some of our staff members. We had to say “Good Bye” to Aretha, our Program Coordinator who moved with her family to Alberta at the end of July; Andrew, who worked in every room in the daycare for 7+ years has gone back to school full time to finish his post-secondary education; Kqeim, who was in the Kindergarten room, retired at the beginning of the summer; and Mackenzy, who finished her degree in July, is now working full time at a physiotherapy office. We are going to miss each and every one of you very much but wish you “Good Luck” in all your future endeavours! On a positive note, we welcomed Nicole back into the centre and she is now working in the school-age room. Krystle has also returned part-time and is back in the school age-room. Danica started with ICCCI this past April and is the team leader in the Preschool room. Jasvir works in the Preschool and Kindergarten rooms and started a few months ago. The newest addition to our staff is Leslie who is in the preschool room and has just recently started at the centre. Hi Everyone! We’re back to let you all know about the fun and exciting things we have been doing and working on these last few months! Mother’s Day Gifts kept all rooms busy as the children were making their moms very “special and personalize” gifts. We hope that all our amazing moms liked them.We as a centre also had to say “Goodbye” and “Good Luck” to Krystle who has gone to pursue her post-secondary education. She will be greatly missed and we wish her all the very best in her future endeavours J Thanks for being a part of our Inkster Family for 3 great years!! Now that the warmer weather is upon us, both children and staff are looking forward to spending lots of time outside participating in various activities enjoying the beautiful outdoors! Also, in the next few weeks, all rooms will be working on making gifts for Father’s Day. All rooms are looking forward to a fun filled summer! With that in mind, our summer planning has begun! Stay tune for more information to follow. Just a friendly reminder, as of July 1, 2017- there will be no more heat up lunches for the summer months until September. All lunches must be disposable so no lunch bags and containers. PRESCHOOL ROOM Children have been keeping busy in our construction area by building hot wheels tracks with ramps, turns, and “special effects.” These tracks have been a HUGE success in all rooms as there are so many creative imaginations and possibilities that have been demonstrated by the children J This area has also been used for “Zombie Tag” where movement games and songs can be seen and heard.
